Overview of Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to produce images of the body’s internal organs and tissues. It is a safe, painless, and quick procedure that can provide valuable diagnostic information for a range of medical conditions.

At Atlas Medical Diagnostic Center, we offer state-of-the-art ultrasound services, performed by a team of experienced radiologists and technicians and. Our centre is equipped with the latest ultrasound technology, which allows us to capture detailed images of the body’s structures with high accuracy and precision.

Ultrasound is a safe and non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that can be used to diagnose a variety of medical conditions, including:

  • Pregnancy: Ultrasound is commonly used during pregnancy to monitor the growth and development of the fetus and to check for any potential complications.
  • Abdominal and pelvic conditions: Ultrasound can help diagnose conditions such as gallstones, kidney stones, and tumors in the liver, pancreas, or ovaries.
  • Cardiac conditions: Ultrasound can be used to create images of the heart and to diagnose conditions such as heart valve problems or abnormalities in heart function.
  • Musculoskeletal conditions: Ultrasound can be used to diagnose conditions such as tendonitis, ligament injuries, or joint inflammation.

Procedure of Ultrasound

Here’s a step-by-step guide to the ultrasound procedure:

  1. Preparation: Before your ultrasound exam, you will be asked to drink plenty of water as it provides an optimal window for imaging. Depending on the area being examined, you may also be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a few hours before the exam.
  2. The exam: You will lie down on an examination table and a technician will apply a special gel to the examined area. The gel helps to transmit sound waves so that the technician can get a clear picture of the internal structures.
  3. The transducer: The technician will then move a small handheld device called a transducer over the area being examined. The transducer sends high-frequency sound waves into the body, which bounce off internal organs and tissues and are picked up by the transducer.
  4. Image creation: The transducer sends the signals to a computer, which processes them into real-time images of the internal structures of the body. The images can be viewed on a monitor and may be recorded for further analysis.
  5. After the exam: Once the exam is complete, the technician will wipe off the gel and you will be free to leave the center. A radiologist will review the images, who will interpret the results and provide a report to your doctor.

The transducer sends sound waves through your body, which bounce back to create images of your internal organs or tissues. The examination is non-invasive and painless.

The time it takes to get blood test results can vary depending on the specific test and the laboratory processing the sample. Some test results may be available within a few hours, while others may take several days or longer. Your healthcare provider can give you a better idea of what to expect.
